Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a circular to the enumerators engaged in the Census 2011 operations, warning them against adopting unfair practices during the survey. The circular comes after it was learnt that a few enumerators had worked out some ingenious ways to circumvent what was required of them. Civic authorities have warned enumerators and circle supervisors that if any irregularity
is found in future, strict action would be taken against the erring persons.According to officials, a few enumerators delegate the work to some other persons as their representative, who goes from door to door and gathers details and fills up the forms. “This is against the spirit of Census work and has to be taken seriously,” said the circular issued early this week.
Also, some enumerators were found to have printed dummy forms and distributed them in their respective areas where people were asked to fill the data on their own. During the next visit, they would collect the forms and copy the details in the original form later. The department has taken a serious note of this as well.
Municipal Commissioner I P Gautam said the corporation discussed this in its weekly review meeting of the census. “The work will be under scanner and we have already circulated instructions to charge officers and enumerators cautioning them against adopting such practices,” he said.
