Plea:JD(S) members submitting a memorandum to an official in Shimoga on Tuesday.
SHIMOGA: Members of the district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a memorandum to the district administration here on Tuesday, demanding that the City Municipal Council be superseded for its “illegal” decisions that were taken forgetting the citizens’ welfare.
They cited the setting up of the Anganwadi centre in a public park, finalising tenders for works to be taken up by the council in favour of a councillor and non-payment of compensation to slum dwellers of the Panchavati Colony after their eviction and inability to trace the “missing” Ashok Pillar as some of the “illegal” acts of the council.
The memorandum alleged that the councillors had no moral right to continue.
It questioned the propriety of the reported exemption of property tax extended to the Maitri Nursing College here, which reportedly collected heavy donations for admissions.
The protesters urged the district administration to intervene in the matter and withhold the resolution passed by the council.
Janata Dal (Secular) members also said that the “indiscriminate” increase in fees for the creation of khatas and issuing of licenses was an act of serious “financial irregularity”.
Workers of the district JD(S) S.K. Shamsundar, Palakshi, Rakesh, Siddappa, Krishna and Kashinath led the delegation.
