Pune: Managing director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) E Sreedharan has stated that the state government should take a lead in implementation of Metro rail project in Pune, as the project could not be accomplished through the efforts of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) alone. Sreedharan was replying to the letter from city-based Professionals Party of India. In the letter sent to Shreedharan during the last week of May, PPI president R V Krishnan had requested Shreedharan to pay a visit to the city to throw light on the metro project.
However, Shreedharan has refused to come. “It has never been the practice of the DMRC to attend public meetings and interact with the public unless the state government so desires and provides a forum for it.”
The letter, dated June 1, says: “On the request of the PMC and PCMC, the DMRC carried out extensive studies for the proposed Metro project… However, a metro project of this type cannot be accomplished by the efforts of PMC alone. The state government has to take a lead and responsibility of such a major investment. We have requested the Chief Minister to take a lead in this matter. Because of the difference of opinion between PMC and PCMC, perhaps, the state government is also not able to make up its mind in regard to the size and configuration of the project.”
