An action plan to supply 61 million litres of water every day to
Ramanagaram city at a cost of Rs 330 crore will be sent to the Centre
after getting the State Cabinet’s nod, District and Energy Minister D K
Shivakumar said on Monday.
He told reporters that while 75 per
cent of Kanakpura town gets water daily, Magadi town gets it once in
three days, Channapatna once in two days and Ramanagaram city once a
week.
Shivakumar said around 16 MLD (million litres per day) of
water is supplied to Ramanagaram city against its daily requirement of
25 MLD. The action plan to draw 61 MLD from the Cauvery will take care
of the drinking water needs of the city till 2045. The pipeline work to
bring water to Bangalore was stopped, and the same facility will be used
to bring water to Ramanagaram.
The minister said the district administration has been instructed to drill more borewells in villages.
Tank Filling
Shivakumar
said the work on filling tanks is on. Ten tanks in Kanakpura taluk were
filled with water from Arkavathy river. The other tanks will be filled
soon.
