NALGONDA: Pro-Telangana advocates and students laid siege to the municipal office building here on Tuesday demanding the resignations of elected representatives of the civic body and the postponement of the general body meeting.
Scores of advocates and student activists, including several girl students, thronged the municipal office building in the morning and raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans.
Tension prevailed at the entrance of the municipal office when the police prevented the protesters from entering the building. The general body meeting was postponed following the protests. Later, the elected representatives of the civic body came out of the building and informed the protesters about the postponement of the meeting.
Meanwhile, advocates owing allegiance to the Telangana JAC boycotted their duties and took out a rally from the district court to the clock tower centre on Tuesday in protest against the alleged use of water cannons and force against the agitated lawyers of Telangana near Parliament in New Delhi on Monday.
Advocates, including the Telangana JAC convener G. Venkateshwarlu, P. Chandrasekhar Reddy, K. Muralidhar Rao, N. Bheemarjuna Reddy, G. Srinivas Chakravarthy, Ramulu, Sandhya Rani and others participated in the rally. They also participated in a protest demonstration held at the Telangana martyrs memorial in the town.
