The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has called
for a preliminary study on the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) for
providing connectivity to urban and urban centres.
The RRR has
been proposed in the Metropolitan Development Plan (MDP). The 290-km RRR
passes through Toopran, Narsapur, Sangareddy, Eddumailaram, Chevella,
Shabad, Shadnagar, Daudguda, Gundelaguda, Ibrahimnagar, Malkapuram and
Bibinagar. Nearly 210 km length of RRR alignment is on existing roads
and the remaining 80 km is newly proposed.
Officials told Express
that the HMDA will engage noted consultants for the feasibility study
using remote sensing (RS) and GIS techniques.
Initially, the RRR
may not be an access controlled. However, based on the traffic growth
and development in surrounding areas, the RRR can be a partially/fully
controlled facility.
Preliminary concept design of RRR for
short-term (by 2021), mid-term (by 2031) and long term (beyond 2031)
with 2/3/4/6 lane carriage way development will be prepared, officials
said.
Location of wayside amenities, toll plazas, operation and
maintenance infrastructure, safety structures etc, would also be
indicated in the plan, they said.
Based on the current
developments and importance of RRR connectivity to urban nodes and
centres, the study would recommend necessary phasing and strategies of
development for RRR in line with the MDP-2013.
