Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission seven projects covering infrastructure and housing have been launched. A total of 15,300 housing units are taken up under the mission at a cost of Rs.303.45 crores. Of them 11,500 are in final stages of completion. While 2,000 are in basement and other stages, 256 are involved in land-related disputes.
The government directed three of the projects be completed by March next, Mr. Vishnu said. The Commissioner said though the housing projects were scheduled for completion by March 2012 the corporation planned to accomplish it by June 2011 and would be a role model for the other cities in the State. In the other cities the projects were caught up in land disputes.
The share of the urban local body in the housing projects is being borne by the housing corporation.
