AMMA initiative launched
600 workers to be deployed for civic works.
The Madurai Corporation has launched a ‘clean city
drive’ in four wards on Friday as part of its Azhagiya Madurai Maanagara
Thittam (AMMA) to provide all basic amenities to people and undertake
repair works wherever required.
All the 100 wards
will be covered in phases as per a schedule drawn by the civic body.
Around 600 workers have been deployed to carry out works concerning
sanitation, streetlights, drinking water and underground drainage. Mayor
V.V. Rajan Chellappa, Corporation Commissioner R. Nanthagopal and other
officials inspected the works in ward 7, 36, 50 and 80 on Friday. One
ward from each of the four zones in the city had been selected.
Officials
said that the basic requirements such as garbage disposal, removal of
water stagnation on roads, cleaning of water channels, repairs to
drinking water pumps in residential areas, removing of blocks in
underground drainage system, cleaning of water tanks, eradicating
mosquito breeding sources and removing encroachments would be carried
out during the drive.
Mayor inspection
The
Mayor inspected works at Sellur 60-Feet-Road, Alwarpuram, Thavuttu
Sandhai, Pallivasal Street, West Masi Street and North Masi Street.
