Arakkonam Municipality to get 1st gasifier crematorium
The Arakkonam Municipality is all set to inaugurate the first
gasifier crematorium among 11 municipalities in Vellore district. The
crematorium is the second one after Vellore Corporation inaugurated one
near the Vellore New Bus Stand.
Vice chairman of Arakkonam
Municipality, K Raja, said, “The crematorium has been constructed at a
space of 3,000 sq ft at an estimated cost of `60 lakh at Nehruji Nagar
graveyard near Housing Board in Arakkonam.” Once the crematorium is
inaugurated, it will opened for public use from May, he said.
“The
charges for using the crematorium by the public has not yet been
decided,” Municipality Engineer Senthilkumar said and added that the
local body was in talks with various NGOs and clubs to maintain the
facility. Free ambulance service and freezer box were also being
requested from the local NGOs, he said. Officials said generators and
LPG facilities would also be provided to the crematorium.
