MCD notice to malls, companies
The Advertisement department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday issued notices to five leading malls and companies, directing them to remove the wall wraps and display boards outside their premises within the next two days, failing which the civic body will lodge an FIR against the concerned authorities. The offenders can face imprisonment up to one year or a fine of Rs 50,000. The notice has been served to MGF Metropolitan Mall, DLF-Vasant Kunj, Select CityWalk Mall in Saket and Aggarwal City Plaza in Rohini, among others.
Two arrested for cheating
Two men, who allegedly posed as recovery agents of a private bank and cheated at least three persons, were arrested from Northwest Delhi on Tuesday. Police officials said Abhishek (25) and Narender Kumar (40) were apprehended in the last two days. Four others are absconding. The arrests came after a complaint filed by one Naresh Kumar Chaubey, a resident of Jahangirpuri, who had taken a loan from a private bank. “He had paid 16 installments but could not pay the remaining. Narender posed as a recovery agent and asked him to settle the matter.
St Xavier-Calcutta alumni celebrations
The Delhi Chapter of the St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association (SXCCAA) celebrated three milestones of the institute on January 31 at the India Habitat Centre. The function marked 150 years of establishment of the college, the silver jubilee of SXCCAA, and the Delhi Chapter’s first anniversary. The four-hour long programme was presided over by the SXCC principal Rev Fr Felix Raj, SJ, who was the chief guest. He also inaugurated the official SXCCAA website, www.sxccaa.net.
Will deliver low-floors on time, HC told
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday got assurances from Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland that they will supply the low-floor buses as asked for by the Delhi government. The court asked both companies to file detailed affidavits on when they would be able to provide the buses. While Tata Motor’s counsel informed the court that they will supply 150 buses by February 15 and another 200 buses by February 28, Ashok Leyland’s counsel also said the company will also deliver 140 buses at regular intervals.
Armed men loot Rs 5 lakh
New Delhi: Three unidentified armed assailants allegedly attacked and robbed a manager working with Bharat Petroleum, to the tune of Rs 5 lakh in front of State Bank of India in Prashant Vihar area of Outer Delhi on Tuesday morning. The police was informed about the incident at 11 am. “The victim, Mahavir Jain, was carrying Rs 5 lakh in a bag to deposit it in the bank,” a senior police officer said. A case has been registered.
