BBMP babus roughed up
The officials, who went around 10.30 am to seize 22 shops for dues were allegedly attacked by shopkeepers.
According to BBMP sources, more than 1,750 shops in K R Market have not paid their dues in the past four years, which has amounted to Rs 3 crore. What started as a small scuffle intensified with several shopkeepers joining in and officials were roughed up.
Sources said that the shopkeepers shouted slogans and refused to pay their dues as they said BBMP had failed to provide basic amenities.
Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, BBMP had informed the police, who brought the situation under control. .
The local BBMP corporator, who later mediated between the two groups, conjured up a compromise and the shopkeepers agreed to pay their dues within one week
