BBMP, BMTC to join hands to put up bus shelters
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore
Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will join hands to construct
people-friendly bus shelters.
There are 736 bus
shelters in the city that have been put up by advertisement agencies.
Instead of information about bus schedules and routes, only
advertisements are displayed, pointed out councillor N.R. Ramesh.
BBMP
Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana said that BMTC’s Managing Director
Ekroop Caur had apprised him about bus shelters being installed where
buses don’t stop and near signals. “BMTC is working towards linking GPS
in the buses to the bus shelters. For this, BMTC requires 50 per cent of
space in the bus shelters. BMTC has also submitted a design for the
shelters,” he said. BBMP and BMTC are likely to sign a memorandum of
understanding in this regard. No new bus shelters would be constructed
without BMTC’s approval, he added.
