BBMP Commissioner game for beautification drive
Bangalore, Oct 28, DHNS
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah on Thursday made it clear to the zonal commissioners of all the eight zones to continue with the beautification drive and penalise those defacing public places with posters, banners and buntings.
Holding a meeting with the Zonal Commissioners on the issue on Thursday, Siddaiah said he was never opposed to wall paintings and initiating action against those defacing the public properties. He maintained that he only instructed them that the wall painting be done in a more systematic manner and a tender be floated and new rates fixed.
He also instructed them that the contract terms must include quality paints so that it lasts longer.
The Commissioner told them that the ideas and concepts of paintings must suit the location and should not hurt anyone’s sentiments. It should promote tourism in the State, inform about the strides Karnataka has made in different fields and help maintain harmony in society.
He also directed his junior officers to initiate action against those defacing public property. “People disfiguring public properties and places should be penalised without showing any pity. Show no leniency towards them,” Siddaiah directed.
Deccan Herald had reported on Wednesday about the beautification drive losing its sheen after the change of baton in BBMP.
