BBMP directed to clear drains

“First clear the drains and then take up asphalting of
roads and filling of potholes.” This was the express direction given to
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials by Upa Lokayukta
S.B. Majage on Tuesday.
Mr. Majage, accompanied by
BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan and officials from the East and West
zones, inspected Lalbagh Road, K.G. Road, A.S. Char Street, Tank Bed
Road, Railway Station Road, Vatal Nagaraj Road, Palace Road and
surrounding areas.
Noting that the clogging of drains
was leading to rainwater stagnating on Tank Bed Road and Railway
Station Road, near Anand Rao flyover, Mr. Majage directed the chief
engineer to first remove silt from the drains.
“Unless this is done, road repairs will not last,” he said.
At
Vatal Nagaraj Road, he noticed the mouths of the shoulder drains were
clogged. He directed the local engineers to ensure that this was
cleared.
Citizens urged Mr. Majage to direct the BBMP to construct public toilets near A.S. Char Street.
They also urged him to ensure that the skywalk on K.G. Road, near Alankar Plaza, is reopened soon.
