BBMP gets Rs. 1,000 cr. for roadworks
With a few months left for elections to the Bruhat
Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State Cabinet on Wednesday
decided to release Rs. 1,000 crore for the city corporation to take up
roadworks in all wards.
A meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, approved 465 tender works for the development of roads in the city.
Law
and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra told presspersons
that the city roads are in poor condition and will get a facelift with
this grant.
The long-pending demand of personnel
serving in BBMP hospitals and healthcare centres has been fulfilled,
with the Cabinet giving its nod for salary revision of doctors, nurses,
lag technicians and other staff, he said. The Cabinet cleared a proposal
on developing a handicrafts village on the lines of Delhi Haat at
Doddabidarakalli village on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
A
sum of Rs. 15 crore was approved for this. The project, to be
implemented through Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation and
the village, would have crafts museum, sales outlets, cafeteria and
other facilities.
The Cabinet also decided to waive
off interest of about Rs. 123 crore on loans procured by small craftsmen
obtained through Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
It
also approved to grant 84 acres of land near Devanahalli for the Indian
Navy. The Cabinet ratified the new names of 12 cities and approved two
solid waste management processing units of private entrepreneurs to be
established in the city.
