BBMP is using TDR to frighten us: ResidentsSept. 16: People on Tannery Road and Mysore Road claim BBMP engineers are forcing them to accept the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) ,which they are being offered in exchange for giving up part of their properties for widening of the roads in question.
“We have been threatened that unless we accept TDR our properties will be demolished,” complain some of the residents. Poor people on Tannery Road who are not aware of TDR laws are being targeted the most, they claim.
“People who own properties here are finding it extremely difficult to accept TDR as their tenants have paid them advances and are not willing to move,” says Imtiyaz Ahmed, who lives on Thimmaiah Road. He believes that Thimmaiah Road will not require widening if the garages and shops stop parking their vehicles on it and taking over its footpaths.
“Why should the residents be punished to benefit a few traders?” he asks. A resident of Azadnagar, off Mysore Road, Ramanand claims a BBMP engineer regularly arrives in the area late at night and warns the people that unless they accept TDR the marked portion of their buildings will be demolished.
“Afraid that the demolition may be done haphazardly some have carried out the demolition themselves,” he claims. Convener of Save Bengaluru Committee says the BBMP must tell the people that TDR is only an option.
