BBMP moots inspection of safety mechanism

Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed periodic inspections of the safety mechanisms in place in the many high-rises in the city.
BBMP Commissioner Bharatlal Meena told The Hindu on Wednesday that the civic authority did not have the authority to inspect the building after the Occupancy Certificate is issued.
“However, if the public or anyone in the building finds that safety measures have been compromised, they may complain to the BBMP,” he said.
The BBMP is mooting safety audit of high-rise buildings, he said.
