Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued over 139 notices to tenants who have violated the contract period on civic authority’s properties leased to them.
BBMP officials said that there were over 30 such properties that have been identified in the East Zone alone. They said that the property occupiers have been given 45 days’ notice to clear the premises failing which they would be evicted forcefully. Caveats have been filed in 11 cases that have legal complications, officials added.
Signboards would be installed to deter encroachers and stringent action initiated against such individuals.
The court has ordered the immediate ejection of four such individuals in East Zone, including the Karnataka Medical Association, National Council for Women in India at Siddapura, Honey House and a private establishment.
Another property worth over Rs. 20 crore was recovered recently and the owner asked to pay the property tax and penalty for the seven years the lease period was violated.
The issue of property owners violating the lease periods had consumed a lot of time in the previous BBMP Council meetings. The officials of the Legal Cell were lambasted for turning a blind eye to the issue. There were over 319 properties that have been leased out by the BBMP, of which 161 had violated the contract agreement.
