BBMP panel cracks whip on mineral water units
The mineral water you just bought may not really be safe. The Bruhat
Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Standing Committee for Health has
found that mineral water bottling units are functioning without ISI
certification in Bommanahalli Assembly constituency.
During a surprise inspection on Tuesday, the committee
members, headed by chairperson B.S. Manjunatha Reddy, found that
borewell water was being filled into the empty mineral bottles at some
units.
Some were found to be misusing the labels of branded mineral companies.
Cracking the whip against such units, he said that
mineral water units can function only with ISI certification. He
directed the officials to shut down two units, which were found to have
no ISI certification. The owners of mineral water units allegedly picked
up a quarrel with the committee.
However, the committee members issued them an ultimatum and directed them to function only after procuring ISI certification.
The committee also inspected Sardharji Ka Dhaba at
Roopena Agrahara. They came heavily against the owner for failing to
maintain cleanliness and hygiene. They also found that the kitchen
lacked safety measures and that rotten, half-boiled eggs were being
served to customers.
