BBMP panel to list leased, rented property
July 22: Mayor S.K. Nataraj has formed a five-member committee headed by Byrasandra corporator N. Nagaraj to make an inventory of the properties Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Paalike (BBMP) has leased or rented out in the city. This follows a belated realisation by the civic agency that the rent it earns from these properties, is only a pittance compared to their prime location and their revenue generating potential.
The committee will make an inventory of the properties and submit a report on the revenue BBMP earns from them. It will also list the property owners who are still occupying the premises though their lease period has expired. The owners will either have to vacate the premises or pay the new rent decided by the BBMP on the basis of the prevailing market rates.
Mr Nataraj also submitted a report to the state government, recommending the disqualification of contractor turned corporator Munirathna from the BBMP council. This follows the failure of the Congress to initiate action against the party corporator though the Lokayukta submitted a report a week ago indicting him for the death of Sanjana Singh in the wall collapse at the veterinary college in Hebbal on June 1.
Munirathna was involved in the construction of the wall which was allegedly of sub-standard quality.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the mayor said Munirathna had been indicted by three reports — Civil Aid Technoclinic Private Limited, a BBMP committee headed by engineer in chief A.K. Gopala Swamy and the Lokayukta.
Mr Nataraj also submitted to the government, details of the incident involving Ganesh Mandir corporator Govindaraju, who was nabbed by the Lokayukta recently, while demanding Rs 2 lakh for allowing the construction of a building.
