BBMP pays salaries to those deputed to other depts
BANGALORE: For years, the BBMP has been crying about fund crunch. But its own employees have been contributing to the crunch.
As many as 3,259 BBMP employees work elsewhere but draw hefty salaries from the Palike. Quoting from the CAG report, Chickpet corporator
AL Shivkumar said of 19,916 on its rolls, only 16,657 work in the
Palike and the rest in other departments despite drawing salaries from
the civic body.
The BBMP proposal to outsource the functioning
of 50 environmental engineers was opposed by Kacharakana Halli
corporator Padmanabh Reddy. “They’re posted in various wings of BBMP,
based on their request and they are not contributing to the
environmental protection of Bangalore. Why outsourcing more and spend Rs
1.1 crore on them?” said Padmanabh Reddy.
