BBMP promises no more worries
This is with reference to the news item that appeared in your newspaper dated: September 14 under the caption “Too many worries”. In this context the Assistant Executive Engineer of K R Puram Sub Division has submitted a detailed report. The Devasandra ward under K R Puram Assembly constituency was previously under K R Puram Municipal Corporation limits. It has been under Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits since January 16, 2007.
This area lacks basic infrastructure facilities and BBMP is striving to provide the same in stages. Presently, there is no drainage system in the area and septic tanks have been constructed on the roads by a few residents.
Moreover, some people have cultivated the practice of draining the toilet waste water and other solid waste into open drains. Sincere attempts have been made to create awareness among people here with respect to the issue. In order to provide a permanent solution to this problem, the BWSSB has to provide drainage system here. BWSSB officials have informed us that this will be done in stages. Without catering to civil work, it is impossible to take up comprehensive development work in this area.
After the Devasandra ward came into the control of Palike, the main roads here have been asphalted and fully functional. Also, open drains have been constructed on main roads and work to close these have to be taken up. IPTL road, which is one of the main roads in this area has been asphalted and, foot path and drains have also been constructed. In the present situation, as grants have not been sanctioned for taking up civil work in this ward, civil work stands incomplete. While planning the programme for this ward, the opinions and suggestions of the local people and Palike members will be taken into consideration and a plan will be made accordingly. The road mentioned in the article, being a cross road, work on this road will be taken up only if funds are sanctioned in the present year. A separate Environment cell has also been formed for Mahadevapura zone under the leadership of the zonal superintendent Engineer. Environment engineers and Health inspectors in the cell are constantly monitoring the cleanliness programme in this ward and they have been instructed to ensure proper work.
Moreover, roads in certain parts of this area are very narrow and as vehicles cannot move on these roads, it has not been possible to collect waste in auto tippers. The locals have already been informed that tippers will be stationed on main roads. But some people do not adhering to this system and continue to litter the roads. However measures will be taken to ensure the completion of work in stages.
