BBMP readies to remedy rain maladies
BANGALORE: The city received 36 mm of rain on Thursday, affecting most parts. Water stagnation was seen near Garuda Mall, HSR Layout, Adugodi towards Forum Mall and other parts of the city. There were reports of tree fall in East End Main Road, Thippasandra, JP Nagar 15 cross, Koramangala 16th main and third block.BBMP deployed its Prahari teams to remove the trees and clear the stagnated water. To avoid any of its earlier follies in addressing rain-related grievances, BBMP has issued advisories to ensure minimum casualties.
Children and elderly people have been asked to be stay indoors during heavy downpours. BBMP says that venturing out during rain would not be advisable to children or elderly people as there would be problem of visibility and other hurdles.
They have also asked the public not to stand under trees or under electricity poles when there is heavy rain. People living in low-lying areas of the city, have been asked to shift to safer places as a precautionary measure.
Added to this, BBMP has been undertaking desilting operations in many drains of the city to ensure smooth flow of water and avoid clogging or overflow of the same into the streets. BBMP has already identified many low lying areas of the city and have also placed Prahari teams in nearby locations to ensure that they can reach the spot to clear the clogging in time without causing delays.
They have also undertaken widening works of existing drains. Added to this, they have started pruning trees with delicate branches and weak trees that may cause harm to the public. The people have been requested to report any rain related incident to the BBMP control room for them to take necessary action.
