BBMP standing committees on June 29?
BANGALORE: If all goes well, then the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, S K Nataraj is expected to form the much-awaited standing committee during the council meet on June 29.Nataraj on Sunday said, “Yes, there is a proposal to form the standing committees on June 29. But I cannot divulge the details on the number of committees that will be formed.”
Welcoming the Mayor’s decision, former mayor, K Chandrasekhar said, “The Mayor gets only 277 working days (excluding the holidays) in a year. And this year, more than 70 days have already been wasted. It will be good if the Mayor sticks to his decision,” he said.
B S Satyanarayana, ruling party leader in BBMP council, said the formation of standing committees would help adopt developmental works.
However, M Nagaraj, Opposition leader in the BBMP council stated that the Mayor had avoided the formation of the standing committees on one pretext or the other. He said, “The standing committewwes were supposed to be formed during the first meeting of the BBMP council. But the Mayor avoided it to facilitate the handover contract works to the Bangalore Development Authority. The council sanctioned Rs 2,000 crore worth development works without proper discussion. I think the work was delayed with a vested interest,” he said.
