BBMP to recover its properties: MayorSept. 22: An inspection of properties owned by BBMP and leased out in the city, has revealed that several properties have violated the lease conditions and have built additional structures without obtained a properly sanctioned plan from the Paalike, said chairman of the BBMP properties monitoring committee N. Nagaraj on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, he said the committee had held discussions with advocate general Ashok Harnahalli on ways and means to deal with properties, the lease period of which had expired. He said Mr Harnahalli had assured him all necessary support to recover those properties whose lease tenure was over .
The violations committed by the lessee on the leased properties, would be considered seriously, he said adding that a draft was being prepared on the action which should be taken against such people and organisations. “We are in talks with the BBMP legal section to ascertain if the lease can be terminated or whether a fresh market rate should be levied for violating the lease conditions,” he said.
According to him, 19 more advocates have been appointed by BBMP to recover properties owned by it, which are under litigation. The BBMP has also procured the missing files of about 21 properties which are situated under BBMP jurisdiction. Before the constitution of the committee, the BBMP had documents for 373 properties which has now gone up to 394.
The BBMP authorities have been directed to computerize details of all BBMP properties and make these details available at the BBMP head office and at the engineering offices in the respective zones, Mr Nagaraj said.
Notices have been served to properties which have exceeded the lease period asking them to file a reply within 45 days. Caveats have also been filed to prevent tenants from obtaining a stay, said Mr Nagaraj.
The committee has sought the permission of the BBMP commissioner to fence the recovered properties at Vasantnagar, Kumbar Gundi and Binny Mills.
