BDA to replace British-era survey maps
BANGALORE: Currently, authorities in the city rely on landsurvey details and maps that date back to the British era, but that is going to change as the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has ordered for a fresh survey.Sources said the BDA had given the contract to survey all the layouts in the city, including the newly added areas, to 57 survey companies. The companies are supposed to get the details such as roads, drains, foot paths and buildings.
BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena said they wanted the survey to be completed at the earliest and thus they had distributed the work among different agencies. He informed that all the data, including the maps, would be converted into digital format. He said once the survey was over, the concerned officials would be able to know the reality of the area without having to visit the site. He added that the maps of all the layouts would be integrated.
Until now, the BDA and other civic agencies were relying on the outdated maps of British era for their planning purposes. The new maps will present an accurate picture of the site. It will also let the authorities detect building violations, if any.
