Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation officials to learn from Gujarat model
BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation
(BMC) would send a 10-member delegation of corporators to Gujarat on
August 16 to help them learn the civic delivery system of Ahmedabad
Municipal Corporation (AMC). It followed the invitation by AMC
commissioner and senior Odia IAS officer of Gujarat cadre Guruprasad
Mohapatra, who presented an audio-visual demonstration of AMC works here
on Monday.
“According to his invite, we would send our
corporators to understand the functioning of AMC. The corporators would
learn the functioning in different departments like tax, license,
sanitation and beautification,” BMC commissioner Sanjib Kumar Mishra
said. “This will be an exchange of best practices between the municipal
corporations of the two cities,” AMC commissioner Mohapatra said.
Citizens took a swipe at the “best practices” exchange programmes. “BMC
officials and corporators toured several places in the country and
abroad to learn from them. But we do not see any change in the civic
functioning. The city continues to be plagued by a host of problems,”
Tarun Hota, a citizen said.
