BMC chief, top cop promise to restore Shivaji Park after visarjan
MUMBAI: The police and the BMC have assured the Bombay high court that Shivaji Park will be restored to its original state after vehicles are parked there during the visarjan of Ganpati.
The court was hearing an application by the civic body, seeking permission for parking of vehicles during visarjan days. The plea was made as the HC has declared Shivaji Park as a silence zone.
After a division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice D Y Chandrachud said he would allow parking there on the four days of visarjan-September 15 to 22-provided police commissioner Sanjeev Dayal and municipal commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya submitted an undertaking that the place would be restored to its original state, the officials filed their affidavit on Tuesday.
While Kshatriya promised to return the park in the condition it was before the vehicles were being parked there-the state it was in on September 14-Dayal said they had demarcated portions on the ground to be used for parking. “The part where sprinklers have been installed and cricket pitches have been left out,” says Dayal’s affidavit.
“I and the municipal commissioner will jointly submit alternative plans for parking at other places as and when Shivaji Park area will be used for any festival, including Ganesh Chaturthi. Such plans shall be submitted by October 21, 2010,” says CP’s affidavit.
