BMC meet likely to be stormyStaff Reporter | Bhopal
Heated arguments are likely to erupt over a number of proposals to be put before the Bhopal Municipal Corporation General Council, which is scheduled to meet here on Thursday.
The meeting, which will be the first since the Congress named Mohammad Sagheer as the leader of Opposition in the council, could also witness fractions within the Opposition benches. A number of Congress Corporators had openly opposed to Sagheer’s nomination for the post.
However, the proposal, which is likely to emerge as the bone of contention between the BJP and Congress camps, is one that deals with revisions in the allocated budget for 2010-2011 under various income and expenditure heads by the BMC administration.
Highlighting irregularities, the Opposition is expected to corner the Corporation over the issue.
Second is the allottment of BMC shops at the Jehangirbad meat market. The BMC has invited offer letters for the purpose. A list of highest bidders has been put in the public domain.
The delayed canalisation proposal of a nullah passing by the proposed AIIMS site at Saket Nagar would also be presented to the general council.
The BMC would also table a proposal dealing with the purchase of machines and other equipment required for cleaning up lakes coming under municipal limits of the State capital.
Recommendations of the committee constituted to look into the auction of vehicles, motor parts and scrap material of the Corporation would also be put before the general council.
The proposals have already been cleared by the Mayor-in-Council (MiC). However, as a rule, a nod from the general council is required to bring the decisions into force.
