The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to distribute
more than 200 pindis (kiosks) to the displaced vendors of Saheed Nagar
market.
The BMC was supposed to rehabilitate the shop-keepers who
were displaced due to construction of Bhawani-BMC Shopping Mall in
Saheed Nagar. Even after repeated assurances, the BMC had not been able
to rehabilitate them.
However, the corporation decided to lease the shops at its last council meeting on Monday.
About
216 pindis will be distributed in the first phase. A decision to build
a commercial complex-cum-auditorium was also taken at the council
meeting.
