BPS cases to be cleared by March
HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would dispose of the pending BPS applications before April 1, Commissioner Sameer Sharma has said.
Replying to a question raised in the Council meeting here on Monday, Sharma said the corporation was conducting melas at the GHMC Circle offices besides organising door-to-door visits and meetings with Colony Welfare Associations to expedite the process. Notices were being issued to applicants asking them to get their cases cleared by paying the balance amount and complying with the other requirements as mentioned in the notice. Of the 2,03,896 applications received under BPS, 83,973 have been cleared. Of the pending cases, 33,688 were declared ineligible. The GHMC has collected a BPS fee of Rs 430.27 crore so far.
Earlier, Corporators of various parties deplored the inordinate delay in clearing BPS applications and blamed it on the corruption in the Town Planning department at the Circle level. Despite having required documents, the applicants were being forced to run from pillar to post to get their cases cleared, they alleged.
RECALL OF BUDGET: A section of the Corporators expressed unhappiness over the approval of the GHMC budget for 2010-11 without a discussion on it in the Council. TDP Corporator Singireddy Srinivas Reddy wanted the Mayor to recall the budget. “It should be passed only after the approval of the Council and after including the requirements and developmental works as suggested by the corporators,” he demanded.
The Mayor and the Commissioner assured the members that their views could find place in the Revised Budget estimate for 2010-11. The budget exercise for the coming year had to start in August itself, he cited the reason for the early completion of the process.
