Budget canteens open at 10 places in Erode

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa inaugurates them through video conference.
People in Erode town can now get steaming hot idlis for
Re. 1 a piece as the Erode Corporation has opened low-cost restaurants
at ten places in the town.
The restaurants were
declared open by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa through video conferencing
on Sunday evening. The civic body established the restaurants at R.N.
Puthur, BP Agraharam, Karungalpalayam, Choolai, Nachiyappa Street, VOC
Park, Surampatty, Gandhiji Road, Kollampalayam and Marapalam.
Mayor
Mallika Paramasivam inaugurated the sale of food at the restaurants in
the presence of Collector V.K. Shanmugam, District Revenue Officer S.
Ganesh, Deputy Mayor K.C. Palanisamy, Corporation Commissioner M.
Vijayalakshmi and senior officials.
People can also get a plate of curd rice for Rs. 3 and a plate of sambar rice for Rs. 5 at these budget restaurants.
The
civic body appointed self-help group members for preparing and serving
the food at these restaurants, which were opened primarily for the
benefit of the poor families in the town.
Training
Officials
said that the self-help group members were given adequate training in
the preparation of food, quality control and management of the
restaurants.
The civic administration would meet the expenditure towards running these restaurants from its general fund.
