The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Wedneday
informed the Karnataka High Court that it would start supplying water in
tankers to the 110 villages in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike
(BBMP) limits, where water in 168 borewells have been found to be unfit
for human consumption.
The counsel representing the BWSSB
submitted that they supply water in tankers to the newly-added 110
villages. Also, soon the BWSSB will pump the borewell water from these
villages, purify it and supply to the villages as a short-term
measure. But in the longer run, Cauvery pipeline wil be laid. A division
Bench directed the BWSSB to concentrate on strictly implementing the
rain water harvesting, improving ground water level and stopping water
pollution.
According to the Bench, steps should be towards protecting lakes and stopping encroachments near the tank bed.
