CCP issues tender for pay-parking
PANAJI: Three localities including Dona Paula are set to become pay-parking areas in the capital city with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) issuing a tender for collection of parking fees on Monday.
While the trader community has voiced its opposition to this move, the CCP has not bowed down to pressure and commissioner Elvis Gomes said that he was under an obligation to implement a corporation resolution.
“The decision is definitely in the interest of the city. It will help create parking space as it will discourage motorists from occupying and blocking parking spaces for long periods of time,” the commissioner said.
The areas which will now be demarcated for pay-parking are: 18th June Road, the Panaji market area and Dona Paula. While four wheeler owners will have to pay 5 per hour, two wheeler owners will have to pay 2 per hour. When queried on the matter, Gomes said, “Residents on these stretches can be issued cards. We are open to talks with residents.”
