Chennai Corporation kick-starts sports competitions for its employees
CHENNAI:
The Chennai Corporation on Wednesday kick-started various competitions
for its employees. Mayor Saidai Duraisamy and commissioner Vikram Kapur
played a friendly game of carrom and badminton to inaugurate the
competition. State minister for handloom and textiles Gokula Indira was
present during the opening ceremony.
More than 600 employees
participated in the indoor competitions held at the Dr J Jayalalithaa
Indoor Basketball Stadium in Kilpauk Garden Colony. Male and women
employees played carrom, chess and badminton (singles).
Throwball and cricket tournaments will be conducted on Wednesday.
The competitions will conclude on September 30. The winners will
participate at the state-level competitions where they will take on the
winners from other municipal corporations across the state. The
state-level competitions will be conducted on October 7 and 8.
“This is a government initiative to improve physical health and
well-being of employees,” said a corporation representative. “Staff feel
fresh, it brings down stress levels and improve harmony among them when
they bond over such events.”
