City gears up for Laila onslaught
HYDERABAD: With Cyclone Laila in the Bay of Bengal likely to cause heavy rain with thunderstorm in the city during the next 48 hours, GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma has put the official machinery on alert and equipped with material to take up emergency operations.
He said six emergency operation vehicles would be kept under the control of the zonal commissioner (Central) to meet any emergencies in the Central, North and South Zones and one each for East and West zones.
The commissioner convened an emergency meeting with additional commissioners, zonal commissioners and other field officers here on Wednesday.
He directed the additional commissioner (Parks and Sports) to provide each zone with a tipper, 10 workers and tree-cutting equipment. Five teams had been kept ready at the headquarters to remove any collapsed hoardings.
In emergency, citizens can contact their nearest emergency control rooms which would function 24×7. They would furnish activity report to the emergency operations centre (EOC) and the additional commissioner (UCD) in the morning and evening.
The EOC at the GHMC headquarters would coordinate round the clock with all the officers for handling emergencies. Its phone numbers are 23222018 and 9704601866.
