With the state budget also waving the proposals through, major road
works, including widening of important link roads, will start this
financial year itself, according to the Thiruvananthapuram Development
Authority (TRIDA).
In addition to completing the renovation of 42
kilometres of city roads, widening works on another 60 kilometres will
be undertaken this year, TRIDA chairman P K Venugopal said.
Urgent
works that will be undertaken include the renovation of the
Vattiyoorkavu Junction and the four-laning of
Vattiyoorkavu-Maruthamkuzhi, Vattiyoorkavu-Nettayam and
Vattiyoorkavu-Peroorkada, he said. ‘’Activities related to these works
can be started soon,’’ Venugopal added.
The budget also has set
the stage for the widening of the Kazhakkoottam-Kesavadasapuram and the
Karamana-Kalayikkavila roads and the road works related to the Attukal
Township Project.
The Chief Minister-led committee for Capital
City Development had put forth ten proposals. A set of five proposals
were also made for the 2013-14 financial year. This included the
construction of a ring road for the city and widening of link roads and
all existing streets; formulation of parking policy and construction of
parking areas; shopping streets and markets; providing the city with a
green cover and the cleaning and renovation of the garbage-choked
Parvathy-Puthanar Canal.
The 2013-14 budget has waved through the
proposals. ‘’The budget has in fact set the stage for a new road
renovation project after the one shaped by the A K Antony government in
2002-2003,’’ Venugopal said.
