Civic body collects Rs. 30 lakh as fine
With dengue eradication inspections being conducted on a daily to day
basis, the Madurai Corporation has collected over Rs. 30 lakh through
fines as on Thursday.
A senior official from the health department of the Corporation told
The Hindu
that a total of Rs. 37 lakh was levied on individuals and industries.
Each institution had been given a week to repay the fine. If they failed
to comply, a first information report would be filed.
“This
activity is not specifically for revenue generation purpose. It is to
inculcate civic responsibility among the public,” he said.
