Lucknow: Starting next month, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will begin a door-to-door survey to assess the pet dog population in the state Capital. The move aims to increase the revenue of the civic body.“We have reports of several pet owners in the city who are yet to get their pets registered with the civic body,” said RD Ram, veterinary official, LMC. Though the fees charged from pet owners is nominal, most do not get their pets registered.
To facilitate this, the civic body has organised regular camps, but the response has not been satisfactory. “So now, we will begin with the door-to-door house survey to assess the number of pets in the city and whether they are registered. This will also help us increase the revenue,” said Ram.
The civic body registered around 14,000 pet dogs last year and earned a revenue of around Rs 2 lakh. But even so, according to its officials, thousands of pet owners are yet to get themselves registered.
“As part of the survey, we will to assess the number of pets in the city and whether they have registered their pets with the civic body and have license for the same or not. The move will also help us increase revenue,” said Ram.
As part of the survey, the civic body officials will categorise dogs according to breeds ¿ small and large. The owners of the small breed dogs will have to pay an annual fee of Rs 50, owners of large breeds will have to shell out Rs 100.
