Civic body representatives learn ‘good governance’
A two-day orientation programme for the newly – elected
representatives of municipal bodies, in the Chittoor district, began
with a series of lectures and presentations, on Monday.
As
many as 120 members, including ward councillors, corporators, deputy
Chairmen and Mayors, are taking part in the programme to learn about
functioning of various departments and best municipal practices, besides
gaining necessary knowledge required for implementing various
government welfare programmes.
Municipal Corporation
of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner T. Sakala Reddy gave a presentation on
‘Municipal Finances, Resource Mobilisation and Municipal Budget’,
explaining several topics including the financial resources and how to
improve them through proper practices. Mr. Reddy opined that such
programmes would introduce the newly-elected members to various
departments and also throw a light on the nuances of good governance.
The
proceedings were interactive as several members raised their doubts and
got them clarified from the officials. Various other topics such as
town planning, Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas
(MEPMA) etc., will be dealt in detail over the next few sessions. Out of
240 representatives in the district, 120 will be trained in the ongoing
sessions and the remaining will be trained in the next phase to be held
from September 1.
