Civic polls: 479 candidates file nominations
KOCHI: The momentum for the local bodies elections has started picking in the district as a total of 479 nominations were filed for different local bodies on the third day on Wednesday even as poll code violations were detected in Ernakulam and Paravoor.Special teams detected poll code violations and removed 15 banners in Ernakulam and two in Paravoor. Ten boards seeking votes were removed in Kochi. The total number of papers filed during the last three days has gone up to 594.
In the grama panchayats alone, 337 papers were filed. Elamkunnapuzha grama panchayat topped the list receiving a maximum of 46 papers.
A total of 33 candidates filed their papers in Kochi Corporation. Only one paper was filed in the district panchayat. Four papers were filed in the block panchayat.
The municipalities in the district received 104 papers.
Three candidates submitted their nominations in Muvattupuzha municipality and three at Kothamangalam municipality. In Kalamassery municipality, five papers were filed in one to 21 wards and four in 22 to 42 wards. Eighteen nominations were filed in Eloor while only one paper was filed in the seventh ward at Maradu. In Thrikkakara, one person each filed nominations from ward number 21 and ward number 28.
Twenty-nine nominations were filed in Njarakkal panchayat.
In Amballoor and Udayamperoor 28 papers were filed, in Kadannakudi 25 papers, Palarimangalam 15, Chengamanad 9, Ezhikara 7, Kumbalam, 3, Puthenvelikara 4.
In Karumaloor, Pampakuda and Vengola 3 papers were filed.
In Alangad, Chendamangalam, Chottanikkara, Kanjoor, Koothattukulam, Marady and Pindimana grama panchayats two papers were filed. Chellanam, Edavanakkad, Elanji, Maneed, Mudakuzha, Nedumbassery, Nellikuzhy, Okkal, Piravom, Ramamangalam, Sreemoolanagaram, Thiruvaniyoor, Valakam and Varappuzha recorded one paper each.
