Cleanliness drive launched at Chamundi Hills ahead of Dasara

A cleanliness drive was launched at Chamundi Hills on
Thursday in a bid to conserve its environment in the face of the tourist
rush during Dasara.
Launching the drive,
environmentalist and Kannada film personality Suresh Heblikar said it
was imperative that people of the city take pride in the natural
heritage of Mysore and conserve it. “Mysore was renowned and respected
for its culture and heritage. It attracted many tourists and thereby led
to the generation of more garbage. Conservation of the city’s
environment should receive utmost importance from the people,” he added.
“Mysore
is a transition belt and was at the cusp of the meeting point of the
Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats and was endowed with natural forests
like Bandipur and Nagarahole around it and people should take greater
interest in its conservation,” Mr. Heblikar said.
The drive was organised by the Dasara cleanliness sub-committee.
Mayor N.M. Rajeshwari, Mysore City Corporation Commissioner P.G. Ramesh, and G.T. Deve Gowda, MLA, were present.
