‘Clear encroachment on government buildings’
With parking lots in commercial complexes being encroached upon,
motorists are forced to scramble for space in the twin cities.— File

As the Hubballi-Dharwad Muncipal Corporation (HDMC) is
all set to carry out a demolition drive against encroachment on parking
places, the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Hubballi, has
urged the corporation to begin the drive by clearing the encroachment on
government and commercial buildings.
In a release,
association president Suresh M. Kiresur said while issuing notices to
building owners, the HDMC was targeting residential buildings.
Residential apartments targeted
Most
of the notices issued by the HDMC were to residential apartments.
However, most of the government buildings and commercial buildings in
busy areas such as Rani Chennamma Circle, Janata Bazar complex, swimming
pool complex and P.T. Park have no parking areas.
Moreover, many zonal offices of the corporation too had no proper parking arrangements, he said.
“It
is known to all that most of the commercial buildings in the city have
been built encroaching upon parking slots. The HDMC should focus on such
buildings first,” Mr. Kiresur said.
He said the
residential apartments which had been issued notices had been earlier
given completion certificates by HDMC officials.
Inspection
Mr. Kiresur asked does that mean the HDMC officials issued them completion certificates without inspection.
The association would oppose any move to target only residential buildings, he added.
