Over four years ago it was made a district. At a special meeting chaired by the CM at his official residence in Chandigarh Monday evening, Badal directed Mohali Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar to constitute a committee, comprising officials of different concerned departments, to work out the plans and implement the decisions in a time-bound manner. In 1984 when the Mohali Municipal Council was formed, several parts of the city, including Sector 66, 67, 68, 69 and 74 onwards, were not included. Spread across 23.84 square km area, the civic body presently covers Sector 53, 54, 55, 56, 56-A, 61, 63, 57, 58, 59, 60, 62, 64, 65, 70, 71, 72, 73 and parts of Sector 66 and 67.

According to the proposal, the Mohali Municipal Corporation will include the city and its adjoining villages Balongi, Barmajra, Sohana, Kumbra, Jagatpura and Zirakpur, Sharma today told Newsline.
For imparting quality higher education to girls, the CM approved the opening of a government girls college. For the cattle pound, he asked the administrative officials to acquire 20-25 acres of land in any part of the district. The CM also approved the setting up of a modern grain market in the district, which was so far deprived of the facility to procure the produce of local farmers.
GMADA Chief Administrator (CA) Vivek Partap Singh said the CM has directed to provide basic civic amenities— sewage and water supply—- to residents of villages within Mohali urban estate and develop them.
On being apprised that several mega projects in Greater Mohali area were stuck up due to the lack of proper passages, the land of which was owned by respective village panchayats, Badal allowed GMADA to acquire the said land but recover the acquisition cost from concerned developers.
