CM to open Amma canteen at GH
The Chennai Corporation will commence operations of an
Amma canteen on the premises of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital
on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will inaugurate the facility at a function at the Secretariat.
The
civic body plans to sell 10,000 idlis, 2,000 plates of sambar rice,
1,500 of curd rice, 1,000 of kariveppilai rice and 2,000 of pongal to
persons visiting the hospital every day. The hospital receives more than
10,000 visitors per day.
The prices at the new Amma
canteen will be similar to those at the other facilities across the
city. The restaurant is expected to supplement the hospital’s canteen.
The
beneficiaries are likely to be visitors from less-privileged economic
backgrounds. A chunk of the two lakh visitors to Chennai Central station
are also likely to use the canteen.
The Rajiv Gandhi
Government General Hospital, which receives the largest number of
patients from other districts among government hospitals, has 2,722
beds.
Six other government hospitals in the city will get Amma canteens shortly.
The restaurant is expected to supplement the hospital’s canteen.
