CMC chief election on Dec 22
Madikeri, December 6, DHNS:
The election for the posts of president and vice-president in Madikeri City Municipality for the second term will be held on December 22.
While the post of president has been reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), vice-president seat has been reserved for women (general). Candidates can file nomination between 9 am and 11 am on December 22. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held between 11 am and 11.30 am. Candidates can withdraw their papers between 11.30 and 12 noon and the election will be held, if required, at 12 noon.
Madikeri Assistant Commissioner stated in a press release that those who contest for president’s post should produce attested documents to prove the caste. A special meet will be held at the Council Hall to conduct the election, wherein all councillors, MLAs, MLCs and Mysore- Kodagu MP will participate.The term of first President P D Ponnappa and Vice-President Latha Bangera ends on December 31. The BJP had bagged the Council with the support of independent members in the election for the first term.
Efforts are on in BJP camps to bag the seats and leaders are engaged in political activities. Councillor Vijayakumar is the aspirant for the president’s seat from the BJP. Meanwhile, H M Nandakumar from the Congress may be the candidate, if Congress – JD(S) alliance was formed. Vasantha Keshava and Shivakumari are the probable candidates from BJP for the post of vice-president. However, candidates of the Congress and JD(S) will be decided only after the coalition agreement.
The results of the election will be a mystery till the end as MLAs, MLCs and MP too have the right to exercise their franchise.
