SHIMOGA: The monthly meeting of the City Municipal Council on Wednesday decided to give up the tender process floated for various development works under the special grant of Rs. 2 crore released by the State Finance Commission in view of technical snags.
The president of the City Municipal Council, N.J. Rajasekhar, who presided over the meeting, said that the tender would be floated again for works to be taken up under the scheme.
Councillor Muniswamy who raised the issue, said that the tender was not transparent giving room for suspicion that guidelines were not followed.
K.B. Prasannakumar, member, alleged that several irregularities were noticed and urged the administration to initiate action against those who were involved in it.
Responding to it, Mr. Rajasekhar said that he had instructed the authorities concerned to cancel the tender when he came to know of the alleged irregularities.
Several councillors raised objections when Municipal Commissioner Jayanna asserted that there were no irregularities in the tender. They criticised that the norms for floating the tender had been violated.
E-tender system
The president said that he would arrange for floating of the tender after the mistakes are corrected. He said that tenders would be called hereafter only through the e-tender system.
Meanwhile, members of the Yuva Janata Dal (S) staged a demonstration on the municipal office premises even while the meeting was in progress, demanding cancellation of the tender. They demanded that all the tenders floated recently should be placed under scrutiny.
