The CMDA on Wednesday locked and sealed a building in Madipakkam
along Bazaar Road in Ramnagar area for violating sections 56 and 57 of
the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.

The owner had obtained
planning permission from the Chennai Corporation on April 18 for
construction of stilt floor (parking) plus two floors residential
building with four dwelling units. However, he completed ground floor
plus three floor commercial building deemed to be used for commercial
purpose, CMDA said.

A Stop Work Notice was issued on June 26 but
the work continued. As the owner failed to comply with the notice, lock
and seal and demolition notices were issued on July 19 and September 18.
These failed to evoke response. Hence the action.
