The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has sealed an IT
building constructed by Hotel Leela Ventures for violating section 56 an
57 of the Town and Country Planning Act of 1971.
A CMDA official
told Express that the IT building constructed by Hotel Leela Ventures
deviated from the original plan. The owner had obtained planning
permission on May 6, 2010 for the construction of triple basement with
stilt, ground floor and 13 floors for IT enabled services besides
construction of hotel building with triple basement, ground floor with
14 floors for hotel building at Mylapore village.
While the hotel
building got the green light from CMDA, the IT building was sealed as
Leela Ventures has illegally constructed part of the 14th floor in the
multi-storey information technology building, he said.
The
official said a lock and seal and removal of unauthorised development
notice was issued on February 4, 2013. Since the owner had not rectified
the deviations, the entire building was sealed, the official said.
Leela Ventures’ file was under scanner for violating rules and was hurriedly cleared during DMK rule.
“The
applicant does not have any right to change the dimensions of the OSR
already gifted to the local body since the ownership is vested with the
local body,” CMDA observed then.
