A solution is in sight for darkness in the wards coming in the
coastal areas of the City Corporation, though many of the wards in the
heart of the city are reeling in the dark. As part of the Integrated
Development of Fishing Villages project, high-mast LED lights are coming
up in select locations in four wards. The lights will be installed at
ten locations in Poonthura, Kottapuram, Vizhinjam and Harbour wards.
“The
Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation is setting up the
lamps. The process is going on in such a way that all the lamps will be
lit by the beginning of next year. These lamps require less
maintenance,” said Works Standing Committee chairman of the City
Corporation V S Padmakumar. The maintenance of the lamps has to be done
by the City Corporation. For long, the councillors in the coastal wards
have been demanding streetlamps.
